Ministry of Digital Affairs Hosts 2024 National Chief Information Officer Conference and AI Workshop for Government Agencies, Launching a New Era of Smart Governance

The Ministry of Digital Affairs hosted a two-day 2024 National Chief Information Officer Conference and AI Workshop for Government Agencies, focusing on AI Applications in Government Agencies. Nearly 200 government information officers and IT strategy planners have been invited to participate. Minister Yennun Huang hopes that this initiative will accelerate the adoption and application of AI within government agencies, demonstrating the government's commitment to driving AI implementation and achieving a smart government.

The Executive Yuan established the "National Chief Information Officer Conference" in 2012 to support government information development policies, promote cross-domain integration and governance, and facilitate information technology and experience exchange among government agencies. The conference has been running for 13 years as a crucial platform for government information technology development and cross-domain integration.

MODA explained that to guide government agencies in applying AI technology to their operations; this conference focuses on AI applications in government agencies. In coordination with the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration's Enhancing Civil Servants' AI Competencies initiative, the MODA seeks to boost administrative efficiency and enhance public service quality through AI. The AI Workshop comprises four key components designed to equip attendees with the knowledge and tools necessary for AI implementation: explanations on AI product procurement and joint supply contracts, the introduction of the domestic TAIDE model and its application cases, agencies sharing AI integration experiences and benefits, and introduction of a public sector AI application manual. Additionally, the workshop features a safe trial environment for government language models. It showcases tools like AI Bots, aiming to build a unified platform for large language models and their applications.

MODA has also set up a Zone for interaction with AI industries, allowing information officers to interact with industry representatives directly. The event also invites the Financial Information Sharing and Analysis Center to share financial cybersecurity threat trends and joint defense strategies to enhance government agencies' cybersecurity capabilities in response to emerging online threats. The conference also includes an awards ceremony recognizing agencies excelling in implementing the Open Document Format (ODF- CNS15251). This initiative encourages government organizations to adopt emerging tools and standards, enhancing service efficiency and fostering innovation.

MODA hopes that through this event and ongoing policies, the information officers can help accelerate AI applications across government agencies. This transformation aims to innovate public service delivery and ensure equitable access to digital technology's benefits, ultimately enhancing governance effectiveness and achieving a comprehensive upgrade to smart government.
