2025 Presidential Hackathon Domestic Track Now Open for Proposals — Calling on Hackers to Co-Create a Net-Zero, Digital Future

The call for proposals for the 2025 Presidential Hackathon (domestic track) officially commences and will run until September 1. In line with the national goals of “Digital Transformation” and “Net-zero Carbon Emissions,” this year’s Presidential Hackathon (domestic track) is jointly organized by the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) and the Ministry of Environment under the theme “Dual Transformation for Green Growth.” The Hackathon invites cross-disciplinary collaboration among industry, government, academia, research, and civic communities to propose concrete solutions utilizing open data and artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to accelerate public service innovation and build a sustainable, digitally empowered Taiwan.

Minister of Digital Affairs and Executive Director of the Presidential Hackathon Committee, Yennun Huang, attended the launch press conference on August 1 to announce the opening of the domestic track. Representatives from the Office of the President, the Legislative Yuan, the Judicial Yuan, the Control Yuan, and the Examination Yuan were also present to demonstrate the government’s commitment to advancing innovative governance. The press conference also featured past award-winning teams sharing their achievements, showcasing how innovative proposals have evolved into real-world implementations and policy applications.

This year marks the eighth Presidential Hackathon, focusing on four core themes: Digital Empowerment, Net-Zero Transformation, Innovative Economy, and Balanced Development. It aims to foster collaboration between central and local governments, private sector organizations, and members of the “ Chief Sustainability Officer Alliance” to jointly contribute to Taiwan’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0) carbon reduction targets. To encourage more public sector agencies to utilize AI for enhancing administrative efficiency and optimizing public services, this year’s competition introduces a new “AI-Powered Public Service Innovation Award.” During the event period, expert consultation and technical guidance on AI applications will be available to participating teams.

MODA emphasized that government open data—particularly in high-value domains such as climate & environment and energy management—provides a strong foundation for developing ideas and solutions. Participating teams are encouraged to utilize the Government Open Data Platform fully and apply AI techniques for data analysis and innovative applications that enhance everyday life for the public.

The Domestic Track of the 2025 Presidential Hackathon is now accepting submissions through September 1. MODA  welcomes civil servants, domain experts, and passionate individuals from all sectors to form teams and propose data- and technology-driven solutions to address societal challenges.
