MODA Launches Pilot and User Experience of the TW DIW Building a New Era of Digital Life for the Public
On December 17th, the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) held a press conference on the Pilot Launch and User Experience of the TW DIW at the digiBlock C Digital Innovation Base. The event officially introduced the TW Digital Identity Wallet (TW DIW) app and six pilot scenarios. The initiative aims to simplify daily life and improve the efficiency of digital services through public-private collaboration, and build a secure, convenient, and privacy-protective digital trust environment for the public.
At the press conference, Minister Yi-Jing Lin noted that the public are often required to present various credentials to verify eligibility, which can create concerns about personal data exposure. The TW DIW addresses this issue through selective disclosure technology, allowing users to share only the information required for a specific service, and ensuring that only necessary data is provided and no additional personal information is disclosed.
Minister Lin further stated that the TW DIW is built on international standards. The pilot marks an important milestone in Taiwan’s digital transformation and lays a foundation for a more convenient and interoperable digital society. Minister Lin highlighted that during the pilot period, the public are encouraged to provide feedback or report issues through the project support channels (Email: [email protected]; Service line: +886-2-8978-6158; Service hours: weekdays 9:00–12:30, 13:30–18:00 (UTC+8)) to support future improvements.
The press conference showcased a range of the TW DIW application scenarios through six experience zones, including digital access, car rental, graduation and employment verification, convenience store package pickup, visitor management, and mobile service applications. Among these, convenience store package pickup services have been launched by three major telecommunications operators and FamilyMart. 7-ELEVEN has also introduced the service at selected stores(Dao-Sheng, Song-Gao and Hong-Tai) and plans to expand the pilot to stores nationwide starting December 24. By integrating privacy protection and information security into everyday services, the TW DIW demonstrates how digital tools can enhance convenience while supporting future smart living.
Since the launch of the TW DIW initiative in August 2024, MODA has followed the principles of collaboration, innovation, and trust to promote digital services that balance security, convenience, and privacy. Over the past year, the ministry has hosted innovation workshops, technical consultation meetings, technical and industrial application workshops, and international exchange forums to align the technical framework with global standards and gather input from diverse stakeholders. All efforts have been carried out under the principle of self-sovereign identity, with the goal of building an open, trusted, and public-centered digital trust ecosystem.
The TW DIW initiative is not only a public service tool but also a key foundation for Taiwan’s future digital society. MODA plans to open relevant source code and invites government agencies, businesses, and software developers to adopt, extend, and innovate on the platform. Through broader participation, the ministry aims to expand digital credential applications and further strengthen the TW DIW ecosystem, supporting a smarter, more secure, more convenient digital future for Taiwan.
