Carry Your Taiwan Digital Identity Wallet on the Go—Scan to Pick Up at Convenience Stores and Get It Done Swiftly!
Galloping into the Lunar New Year! During the Lunar New Year holiday, when people visit relatives and friends and exchange gifts, it is also the peak period for picking up online shopping gift boxes and products. The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) is actively promoting the application of the Taiwan Digital Identity Wallet (TW DIW). When collecting online shopping parcels at convenience stores, people no longer need to worry about forgetting to bring their physical IDs—simply presenting a QR code on their mobile phone is enough to complete identity verification. MODA pointed out that this service not only significantly improves the efficiency of daily life for the public and the operations of convenience stores, but also, through “minimal information disclosure” technology, enables people to enjoy secure and convenient services instantly.
Picking up online shopping parcels at convenience stores has become part of people’s daily lives. Especially during the Lunar New Year period, when logistics activity is frequent, being unable to collect a parcel due to not carrying a physical ID can delay gift-giving during the holidays and cause considerable inconvenience. MODA noted that TW DIW has now been successfully introduced for parcel collection at convenience stores. Store clerks only need to scan the encrypted QR code on a customer’s mobile phone to quickly verify their eligibility to pick up the parcel. This initiative not only eliminates the hassle of searching for identification documents, but also, through a digitalized process, helps convenience stores shorten verification time, realizing the smart vision of “instant services in everyday life.”
In addition, the greatest difference between TW DIW and physical IDs lies in its ability to effectively protect privacy. MODA explained that when traditional physical IDs are inspected, individuals are often required to disclose all the information shown on the document, such as their name, ID number, and date of birth. By contrast, TW DIW adopts advanced verification technology under which the system verifies only the necessary information, while all other unrelated data remain protected. This significantly reduces the risk of personal data leakage and builds a secure safeguard for the public’s digital lives.
MODA stated that TW DIW is a key infrastructure for the nation’s smart living initiatives. It will continue to enhance the user experience and actively collaborate with more private companies to expand its application scenarios into a wider range of everyday administrative and commercial services. Through public–private partnerships, MODA hopes to simplify complex procedures and, together with the public, usher in a high-efficiency digital year marked by swift success, security, and convenience.
