Minister of Digital Affairs Audrey Tang Meets with Speaker of the Czech House of Representatives Markéta Pekarová Adamová, and Taiwan and the Czech Republic Join Forces to Deepen Democracy

The Minister of the moda Audrey Tang received a delegation of 30 representatives led by Speaker of the Czech House of Representatives Markéta Pekarová Adamová this morning (29th) to exchange views on digital resilience, cyber security, and public-private partnerships. Minister Tang hoped that Taiwan and the Czech Republic would work together in the international community to create more opportunities for cooperation and deepen democracy through citizen participation and digital empowerment.

Minister Tang said that the visit of Speaker Adamová and her delegation to Taiwan not only laid the foundation for cooperation between Taiwan and the Czech Republic, but also showed the international community that Taiwan is not alone and that this sense of solidarity is crucial when countries work together to address common challenges.

Minister Tang pointed out that Taiwan and the Czech Republic are partners who share the values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, and that they fit into the moda’s core philosophy of promoting “digital resilience for all.” The shared vision of Taiwan and the Czech Republic for the future is fully reflected in the opening of the Czech Hub in Taiwan on Monday (27th), which is believed to be an important cornerstone of future interaction between Taiwan and the Czech Republic.

Quoting the words of the late Czech President Václav Havel, Minister Tang expressed her hope that Taiwan and the Czech Republic will work together based on common values: “I feel that the dormant goodwill in people needs to be stirred. People need to hear that it makes sense to behave decently or to help others, to place common interests above their own, to respect the elementary rules of human coexistence.”

In the meeting, Speaker Adamová noted that Taiwan is a vital ally of the Czech Republic, and that both sides share common values on important issues such as human rights, freedom of speech, and democracy, and hope to continue to exchange views and develop cooperation on issues such as information security and digital resilience in the future.

The delegation visiting the moda was accompanied by David Steinke, representative of the Czech Economic and Cultural Office, and Liang-ruey Ke, representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Prague, and consisted of 30 Czech government officials, representatives from all parties, and representatives from industry, academia, and research, including Marek Ženíšek, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Czech House of Representatives, Pavel Žáček, chairman of the Security Committee, Marek Benda, chairman of the Friendship Group, Representatives Marek Výborný, Ondřej Lochman, and Ivan Jáč, and Lukáš Kintr, Director of the Internet and Information Security Agency.
