“Taiwan Digital Identity Wallet” Sandbox Program — Now Open for Applications

As the digital economy rapidly evolves, digital credentials have become a growing concern globally. To accelerate the development of the Taiwan Digital Identity Wallet (TW DIW) ecosystem, the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) announced that the TW DIW sandbox program is now open for applications beginning March 31 at 10:00 AM. The Ministry invites businesses, individuals, and academic institutions to join this initiative and help test the feasibility and potential of digital credential technology.

The sandbox provides a safe and regulated environment for participants to explore new applications, experiment with innovative technologies, and offer feedback to help refine the system. Minister Yennun Huang emphasized that the TW DIW is more than a technological tool. TW DIW is envisioned as a foundational building block for Taiwan’s future digital society, where services increasingly rely on trusted digital credentials. It also offers stronger privacy protection by empowering individuals to manage their personal data with features such as selective disclosure. Furthermore, its ability to interoperate across systems will help drive the digital economy and accelerate Taiwan’s transition to a more innovative, more connected society.

Director General Eric Juang of the Department of International Cooperation noted that the goal of the sandbox program is to discover practical applications for the TW DIW and identify potential issues in advance. The program will help ensure the system meets user needs once officially launched. Moreover, the sandbox program is a collaborative effort involving government agencies, private enterprises, academic institutions, and cybersecurity experts working together to test usability and security in real-world scenarios.

The launch of the TW DIW marks a milestone in strengthening Taiwan’s digital environment and building a secure, convenient, and trustworthy society. MODA warmly welcomes all sectors to participate—whether you’re part of a public agency, a private business, or simply someone interested in emerging technologies—and to help shape Taiwan’s digital future.
