Civic Tech Taiwan Now Accepting Submissions for Newly-Launched Digital Identity Wallet Innovation Challenge

The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) has invited innovative experts from various different fields to participate in a civic technology innovation challenge. The theme for this competition is centered on innovative new application scenarios for Digital Identity Wallet (DIW), specifically focusing on convenience service innovation, government efficiency enhancement, and social issue solutions. Regardless if you’re a student, engineer, designer, or a passionate new graduate just entering the workforce, all participants are welcome to form teams and enter the challenge. The core technology that the challenge is centered around is the DIW. A mentorship group will work alongside participants throughout the challenge to help them design and create an original prototype. MODA looks forward to seeing each of the creative ideas put forward by participants for creating a more convenient and secure digital life.

MODA also explains that in the future, paper documents such as driver’s licenses, graduation certificates, and library cards may all have the chance to be included in the DIW. A DIW is not an electronic wallet, nor is it just an individual ID credentials tool. It is a digital tool able to integrate all types of credentials, allowing graduation certificates, driver’s licenses, training certificates... etc., to all be safely stored within a mobile phone like cards in a wallet. The public can then decide whether or not to display these credentials. This data will also not be recorded within a single database, ensuring privacy and security. Additionally, this technology complies with international Verifiable Credentials (VC) and Decentralized Identifier (DID) standards, allowing the public to use this technology with peace of mind and carry their DIW on them at all times.

MODA states that this competition aims to adopt the power of civic technology to redefine digital public governance. MODA hopes that all participants, regardless of their age or profession, can harness their creativity to come up with the coolest ideas for achieving data autonomy, privacy, and security, and for making life in the future more convenient. Participants may submit proposals before October 3rd. Let’s work together to more quickly make these beautiful ideas for the future a reality.
