Ministry of Digital Affairs Convenes Expert Seminar to Jointly Discuss Green Digital Service Development Blueprint
The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) convened the “Green Digital Service Expert Seminar” on October 2. Focused on the theme: “Taiwan’s Green Digital Service Development Blueprint,” the seminar gathered experts from domestic industry, government, and academia to collaboratively explore strategies for promoting Taiwan’s green digital services and addressing digital sustainability challenges. At the seminar, experts representing various sectors strongly highlighted their focus on international green digital trends, aiming to foster cross-sector dialogue and consensus to support Taiwan’s active integration into global digital sustainability trends, while advancing toward the shared goals of digital transformation and sustainable development.
MODA’s International Cooperation Director General Eric Juang stated that, to support the MODA’s core policies of “advancing AI industry development” and “strengthening digital government infrastructure,” promoting the green transformation and sustainable development in digital services requires collective effort and consensus across all sectors. Director General Juang emphasized that green software and sustainable digital development are global trends, and the MODA will continue to align with the Office of the President’s National Climate Change Committee’s “Green and Digital Dual-Axis Transformation” policy to support Taiwan in balancing net-zero goals with digital transformation.
MODA introduced a preliminary “Green Digital Service Blueprint,” focusing on establishing national green software standards and verification systems, promoting voluntary green software labels for inclusion in green procurement, issuing voluntary green software and digital service certifications, enhancing talent development mechanisms for green digital services, and aligning with cutting-edge international technologies. This blueprint aims to drive the sustainable and economic growth of the digital industry, facilitate its integration with global supply chains, and support businesses in enhancing their ESG profiles, showcasing Taiwan’s commitment and capability in achieving its low-carbon transformation.
The seminar focused on promoting practical green applications in the ICT industry, creating demand and incentives through green procurement, enhancing green digital talent development, and addressing industry expectations for the Green Digital Service Blueprint.
MODA announced plans to hold a second seminar to further consolidate consensus among industry, government, and academia on “Taiwan’s voluntary green software labeling and grading systems.” Through collaborative efforts at the seminar, MODA aims to gradually shape Taiwan’s Green Digital Service Development Blueprint and align the nation’s sustainability policies with international standards.
