MODA Meets with Delegation Led by CBC Vice Chair McBath to Deepen Taiwan-U.S. Digital Technology Cooperation

On June 17, 2026, Minister Lin Yi-jing of the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) met with Lucy McBath, Vice Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), and Representative Valerie Foushee, a member of the CBC. This was the first visit to Taiwan by Vice Chair McBath and Representative Foushee during their terms of office. Both sides had in-depth exchanges on cooperation issues between Taiwan and the United States (U.S.), including AI sovereignty, online fraud prevention, communications resilience, cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure security.

Minister Lin stated that Taiwan, facing a large number of cyberattacks from abroad every day, has accumulated a wealth of valuable practical attack and defense data. Furthermore, Taiwan is very willing to work with like-minded partners to promote cybersecurity protection. In addition, Taiwan also faces the threat of damage to its communication submarine cables, which could affect its external communications. Therefore, it hopes to cooperate with international low Earth orbit satellite service providers to offer backup solutions for network communications, enhancing Taiwan's communication resilience and infrastructure security.

Minister Lin also pointed out that online fraud has seriously affected the operation of democratic society. Therefore, MODA actively cooperates with major U.S. digital service providers such as Meta and Google to promptly remove fraudulent information from online platforms in order to protect citizens’ rights and interests. MODA also looks forward to collaborate with leading AI companies in the U.S. to jointly develop AI models that embody the concepts of freedom and democracy, utilizing Taiwan's rich traditional Chinese corpus. This will ensure that the development of AI can more comprehensively reflect the shared cultural values of Taiwan and the U.S.

In the interview, Vice Chair McBath responded that the authenticity of information has become a major challenge in the rapidly developing online environment. Furthermore, the improvement and resilience of digital infrastructure are crucial for safeguarding the rapid flow of online
information and information security protection. This is also an important issue for ensuring stable development of a democratic society. The importance of data in AI development is also recognized. Therefore, it is hoped that by deepening cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S. in the digital field, a safe and trustworthy digital environment can be built.

The visit by the CBC delegation demonstrates the deep foundation of cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S. and highlights U.S. recognition of Taiwan's achievements in the digital field.
