5G Applications Introduced to Matsu: MODA Joins Hands with Three Major Telecom Operators to Showcase New Smart Island Scenarios
The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) held a 5G Vertical Field Application Experience in Lienchiang County this afternoon (18th). Three major domestic telecommunications operators were invited to showcase the application results of AI cultural interaction, smart healthcare, and smart education, where digital technology is extended from communication infrastructure to areas of daily life such as culture, healthcare, and education, allowing the people of Matsu to personally experience the convenience brought by 5G and AI technologies.
Lin Yi-jing, Minister of Digital Affairs, noted that the true value of 5G lies in integrating convenient AI-powered digital services into daily life through high bandwidth and low-latency connectivity. MODA will continue to collaborate with local governments, telecommunications operators, and industry partners to bring digital technology to outlying islands and rural areas to meet local needs.
This event featured presentations from representatives of the three major telecommunications operators, showcasing different application scenarios and providing interactive experiences for the residents of Matsu. Under the theme “AI Digital Technology Applications in Culture,” Chunghwa Telecom presented traditional culture in a different light by combining local culture and tourism features of Matsu with digital technology. The integration showcased the potential of technology in conjunction with local culture and tourism promotion.
Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) showcased the 5G smart healthcare application for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) diagnostic set. By acquiring medical images through high-resolution otoscopes, laryngoscopes, and other equipment, and using the 5G network for real-time transmission, the application provides technical support for medical personnel to conduct remote image interpretation and consultation, demonstrating the application outcomes of 5G in helping outlying islands improve the accessibility of medical services.
Taiwan Mobile showcased its smart campus and interactive teaching applications under the theme “The Great Possibilities of Smart Campus.” By connecting digital educational resources and teaching scenarios through 5G networks, it aims to enable students on outlying islands to access more diverse learning content and expand the breadth and depth of their digital learning.
MODA emphasized that a high-speed and stable communication environment, coupled with AI and various digital technologies, can help overcome geographical limitations and extend more diverse services and resources to outlying islands. With the completion and commissioning of the Taiwan-Matsu No. 4 subsea cable and the steady implementation of digital applications such as 5G, the digital environment of Matsu will be further improved, creating more possibilities for smart applications in local industries. This showcases the achievements of joint investment by the central government, local governments and the private sector in the digital construction of outlying islands.
