Deputy Minister Ning Yeh of the Ministry of Digital Affairs Attends the Swedish Broadband Big Future International Conference to Share Taiwan’s Practical Experience on Digital Resilience for All

On the 26th and 27th of June, Deputy Minister Ning Yeh of the Ministry of Digital Affairs (moda) attended the Sweden 2023 International Conference “Broadband Future—The Foundation of Trust for a Digital Society,” where he shared the practical experience of Taiwan’s digital resilience for all in a keynote speech. He also met with Dan Sjöblom, Director General of the Swedish Post and Telecommunications Authority (PTS), to share both countries’ experiences and practices in the development of digital industry, and to deepen the interaction between Taiwan and Sweden in the future.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Yeh explained that moda’s core concept is to use digital tools to achieve “digital resilience for all”; he emphasized that broadband access is a basic human right in Taiwan, to ensure the practice of democracy. The Ministry is planning to strengthen its infrastructure with multiple heterogeneous communication networks, such as satellite, submarine cable, microwave, Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR), and disaster roaming, to enhance digital resilience.

In addition, in response to the international trend, the Ministry has opened the application process for 5G dedicated frequency bands for vertical applications in the industry, and is planning to open the license-free band (Wi-Fi 6E) to accelerate social inclusion and industrial development.

During the meeting, both sides shared their efforts and experiences in broadband network popularization, and also exchanged views on industrial policies, strengthening digital infrastructure, information and communication security, in order to explore future policy directions.

The meeting was arranged by the Taipei Mission in Sweden, along with Mathias Tegnér, a member of the Swedish Parliament. The aim was to exchange views on various issues such as digital government services, open data, and cyber security, thereby further deepening the exchange between the two countries.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs explained that it was participating in the international conference in order to explain moda’s core concepts, and many countries expressed strong interest in Taiwan's model of digital resilience for all.
