Moda Launches Web3-themed Event with Vitalik in Attendance - Inviting All Sectors to Experience Web3 Technology in Social Applications

The Ministry of Digital Affairs (moda) has announced that, in response to the potential impact of emerging web3 technologies in the digital field, it will host two web3-themed events in December. These events are the 'Next-Generation Digital Island - Digital Social Infrastructure Experience Exhibition' and the 'DAO Taipei International Symposium on Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO).' Several international experts, including Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, have been invited to participate. The moda invites the public to explore how emerging technologies can enhance privacy and security while promoting digital civic engagement when using web3 applications.

The moda pointed out that, with advancements in technology and internet applications, the internet has evolved from the initial one-way information reception of web1 to the familiar era of personal interaction in the online world, known as web2. Various social media platforms have emerged, providing convenience but also introducing challenges such as inflexibility, privacy breaches, data misuse, and algorithmic content filtering. Web3 represents a next-generation internet service model based on blockchain technology, offering enhanced information and privacy security to create a fair, open, free, and secure online environment.

Since its establishment in August 2022, the moda has actively monitored the potential impact of web3 on the future digital environment. The 'Next-Generation Digital Island - Digital Social Infrastructure Experience Exhibition,' scheduled for December 9th, will demonstrate how web3 technology can be applied in daily life to enhance societal well-being. The exhibition consists of four main thematic areas, starting with 'Individual Identity' at the societal foundation and extending to digital communities and public resources. It explores how privacy can be ensured, personal data can be used securely, and mutual assistance can be provided in the digital world. The exhibition presents the moda's research and verification results in emerging web3 technologies and allows the public to experience a future life that aligns with digital rights.

Furthermore, on December 17th, the moda will host the "DAO Taipei International Symposium," bringing together practitioners from decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) worldwide. Speakers include Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, Jelani Clarke, founder of DeSciWorld, Sejal Rekhan, founding member of GreenPill Network, and David Casey, director of Funding the Commons. The symposium will delve into the development trends of how organizations operate on the blockchain. The transparent and flexible nature of decision-making and operations in these internet organizations not only reflects the pursuit of collaboration models by civic tech communities but also represents innovation in the digital age.

Unlike traditional symposiums, DAO Taipei is designed with an open space concept to foster interaction and exchange among participants, establish connections across industry, government, academia, and civil society. The event is co-organized in collaboration with DA0, BuZhiDAO, FAB DAO, and VolumeDAO, thereby encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue and discussion. The Asia-Based Community DAO (ABCD) has also been invited to contribute diverse international perspectives. The moda aims to create a new era of public-private collaboration and jointly delineate the future development blueprint for Taiwan's digital society.

Eric Juang, Director General of the Department of Democracy Network, conveyed his anticipation that participants would not only gain insights into the changes and impact of web3 technology on future life during the series of events but also reimagine future social structures. Through interactive exhibitions and open discussion spaces, attendees have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the future landscape of digital life, thereby catalyzing the development of more social innovation cases in Taiwan. The moda warmly welcomes active public participation in exploring the direction of web3 development.
