The moda Concluded Its Web3-related Activities, Showcasing International Collaborative Dynamics in the Public Domain
In December, the Ministry of Digital Affairs (moda) organized a sequence of international seminars and public events, including the "Next-Generation Digital Treasure Island – Digital Social Infrastructure Experience Exhibition" and the "DAO Taipei International Conference on Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO)." These initiatives served as a catalyst for enhancing Taiwan's global discourse on digital democracy, embodying the principles of open government. Furthermore, the moda championed a collaborative model between the public and private sectors, fostering citizen technology and civic participation.
On December 9 and 10, the moda hosted the "Next-Generation Digital Treasure Island – Digital Social Infrastructure Experience Exhibition," showcasing the department’s achievements in promoting digital policy since its inception. The exhibition provided interactive experiences related to web3, highlighting the introduction of four "fictional characters" by Taiwanese DAO. These characters simulated their candidacy for verification through decentralized identity (DID) services. Attendees were able to vote without disclosing unnecessary personal information, thereby simulating the potential practical application of Taiwan's DID in the future. This allowed the public to envision the possibilities of web3 technology in their future lives and sparked imagination about a decentralized world to come.
On December 12, the "web3 Verification Results Seminar'' took place at the NCTU Meeting Center. It invited technical teams that actively participated in the department's verification activities from September to December to verify and share their achievements in various key web3 technologies. The seminar also invited domestic experts and teams in academia, industry, and research, including Deputy Commissioner Yeh Che-Liang of the Public Construction Commission, Associate Professor Liao Shih-Wei of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Taiwan University, Associate Professor Yeh Luo-Yao of the Department of Management Information Systems at National Central University, Researcher Chang Jen-Wei from the Institute of Sociology at National Tsing Hua University, Wu Li-Chi, Chief of the Institute for Information Industry, Chen Chien-Yu, Managing Partner of Infofrontier Law Firm, and three tech-community participants and contributors: Hsu Wu-Long, Zhang You-Sheng, Lin Jia-He, and Zhuang Guan-Jun. They engaged in discussions on the future development of web3 digital infrastructure in Taiwan.
In order to encourage widespread participation, the Digital Development Department organized online live broadcasts and utilized Slido interactive tools, inviting public servants with an interest in digital public domain governance and collaboration. During the seminar, expert scholars acknowledged the department's accomplishments in advancing web3 digital infrastructure and offered valuable insights and suggestions.
On December 17, "DAO Taipei" organized an innovative international exchange forum, gathering participants from Japan, South Korea, India, the United States, France, and Canada for a lively sharing and exchange at the Heng Cheng Paper Industry in Xindian. Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, voiced his support for the DAO Taipei event through a pre-recorded video. The occasion embodied the diverse integration of civic society across national, cultural, political, and geographical boundaries. The forum delved into topics such as collaboratively advancing new organizational forms, enhancing the practice of digital citizenship through web3 infrastructure, and fostering diverse discussions, reflections, and visions to link Taiwan with the global democratic network.
Minister Audrey Tang also participated in the DAO Taipei event via a pre-recorded video. She noted that DAO has garnered widespread global attention, transcending national boundaries and progressing toward a vision of a diverse universe where "Portable Code Interoperability Service." It is believed that DAO serves not only as a significant digital social innovation but also as a catalyst for the future of collaborative technology and democracy.
