Minister Yi-Jing Lin of The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) Attends COMPUTEX 2026, Shaping an AI Ecosystem

COMPUTEX 2026 has officially drawn to a successful close. Centered around the theme "AI Together," this year's exposition highlighted groundbreaking advancements in AI Computing, Robotics & Intelligent Mobility, and Next-Generation Technology. The event served as a premier global hub, uniting tech pioneers, emerging startups, and industry experts to unveil the future of AI-driven innovation.

A major highlight of the event was the inaugural Open Source Team Taiwan Pavilion. Organized by the Administration for Digital Industries (ADI) under the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA), the pavilion brought together resources from the IT industry, government, academia, research institutions, and open-source communities.

Under the banner of "Team Taiwan," the pavilion showcased Taiwan’s innovative prowess in open-source technology, AI applications, and digital infrastructure on the global stage, while facilitating deep, cross-domain and international community exchanges.

At the opening ceremony of the Open Source Team Taiwan Pavilion, Minister Yi-Jing Lin of the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) emphasized that the open-source spirit is a critical catalyst for driving a thriving global software ecosystem. In this context, open source is a core strategy; not only does it help IT service providers accelerate the commercialization of emerging AI technologies, but it also comprehensively deepens Taiwan's AI industrial capabilities and connects it with the global market.

To translate the open-source spirit into actions that drive the development of the AI industry, the government is promoting the “10 new AI infrastructure initiatives”. Meanwhile the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) continues promoting an AI software ecosystem through five key strategies: AI Compute, Data, Talent, Marketing and Funding. These efforts will help the IT industry strengthen its capabilities, foster international cooperation, and build a sustainable digital environment.

In terms of AI Compute, the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) has built  AI computing capacity and provides AI training environments for the IT industry. As of December 2025, we have supported 186 IT companies in training 266 AI models. Under the commercialization policy, 80 IT companies have successfully productized their AI services. In the era of AI, we will support companies in leveraging data to develop innovative AI applications and bring them successfully to market.

In addition, to integrate domestic industries with the global open-source ecosystem, the pavilion featured Keynote Stage presentations and offline meetups throughout the exhibition. Inviting speakers included Brian Behlendorf, co-founder of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) and former Executive Director of the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF), and Justin Mclean, ASF Board Member, Apache Incubator VP, and Community Manager at Datastrato. The two events drew approximately 200 attendees, fueling spirited discussions that underscored the high level of engagement with global tech issues within Taiwan's open-source community and industry.

During the events, Behlendorf noted that open-source has become the foundation of modern AI and software systems. However ,he reminded that as adoption grows, so do concerns around security, trust, and accountability, sharing insights on how open-source supply chains can be secured at scale. Meanwhile, Mclean encouraged Taiwanese developers to understand how to build, govern, and scale open-source projects in real-world environments, and how governance and community structures enable long-term sustainability.

To this end, the role of the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) is to set up an AI ecosystem through policies that foster AI innovation. Through these collaborative efforts, we aim to cultivate Taiwan's open-source ecosystem, sustain a resilient and innovative AI ecosystem that fully empowers our IT industries, and allow Taiwan to become a premier AI hub around the globe.
